Design-led youth changemaking
We Are Future: Sydney - a collaboration with John O'Callaghan.
A program pilot that used design to empower youth to create social change in their community. Aiming to create a network of youth change makers across Sydney, using cross class, cross school and cross city collaboration. Our program was piloted in 2014 which included co-design session with youth experts and has worked with schools to further develop the program to understand how to engage and empower students.
Designing out risk
Taking a new approach to counter-terrorism, UTS teamed with the NSW Counter Terrorism and Special Tactics Unit to engage multiple stakeholders in the revisioning of iconic Circular Quay and Opera House precinct. In conjunction with UTS students, a team explored these issues to find alternative solutions. These new approaches enabled innovative planning, communication and urban design responses that aim to enhance the experiences for visitors whilst aiming to 'design out' risk of terrorist threat
Reframing street robbery
Canterbury Council in conjunction with University of Technology, Sydney.
Turning typical crime prevention approaches on its head, 'The Spice Trails' is a multi-modal program of urban works and social interventions coupled with a public facing campaign that re-frames the issues of multicultural discord and street robbery, looking to reduce incidents and improve community cohesiveness.
